Police in Luweero District are investigating a fatal workplace accident in which an 18-year-old mechanic was killed while repairing a truck at Stabex Petrol Station in Luweero Town Council.
The accident occurred on February 4, 2026, at about 1:00pm along Kiwoko Road, according to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima.
The deceased has been identified as Raymond Lukyamuzi, a mechanic attached to Kasana Musooba’s Garage and a resident of Kalongo Mitti Village in Luweero District.
According to police, the incident involved a Mitsubishi Fuso low-bed truck, registration number UA 880BK, which had been parked near a service bay for mechanical repairs.
Twiineamazima said mechanics were wiring the vehicle and requested the driver to start the engine so it could be raised for easier access underneath.
“However, on starting the vehicle, it rolled in reverse and ran over the head of Lukyamuzi, who was underneath it at the time,” Twiineamazima said, adding that the victim died instantly.
Police said the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident and has not yet been identified.
“More inquiries are ongoing to apprehend the driver and establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic accident,” Twiineamazima noted.
The body was conveyed to Luweero Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination, while the motor vehicle was towed to Luweero Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Twiineamazima cautioned motorists and mechanics to exercise utmost care when working on vehicles, warning that negligence during repairs can lead to fatal but preventable accidents.
