A 25-year-old security guard has been taken into police custody in Luweero District after allegedly attempting to sell live government-issued bullets, highlighting ongoing concerns about the misuse of security personnel and illegal arms.
Alfred Okongo Owona was arrested on Wednesday, January 7, after trying to sell four live bullets at the offices of Hipos Security Company in Luweero Town.
According to the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the arrest followed a tip-off from a security supervisor.
“Information was received from a security supervisor about a suspect attempting to sell live ammunition, and our officers responded promptly,” ASP Twiineamazima said.
Police officers from Luweero Town Council Police Station re-arrested Owona and recovered the four bullets during a body search.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Owona is employed by Securex Security Company Limited in Kampala and had been deployed at Crown Paper Factory in Kawempe Division.
He is suspected of stealing the ammunition from a company firearm after completing a night shift before traveling to Luweero.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing,” ASP Twiineamazima added, urging the public to report any suspicious activities related to illegal arms or ammunition.
