Adjumani Woman Surrenders After Axe Killing

Police in Adjumani District are investigating a case of domestic violence that resulted in the death of 26-year-old Fred Alumai, a peasant farmer from Leanguru Village, Fuda Parish, Pakele Sub-county.

Alumai and his wife, Beatrice Amadrio, 23, were reported missing after two nights of violent altercations at their home. Police say the couple first fought on November 19, 2025 at about 9pm, followed by a second confrontation at around 2am on November 20.

Both individuals disappeared afterward, raising concern among neighbours.

A community search team later discovered Alumai’s body on November 26, 2025 at around 5:00 pm in a nearby bush. Police say Amadrio fled after the killing.

However, at about 6:00 pm that same evening, she surrendered herself at Ciforo Police Station and confessed to killing her husband with an axe. She was arrested and transferred to Adjumani Central Police Station, where she remains in custody.

A police team and a medical officer visited the scene, conducted examinations and carried out a postmortem before the body was handed over to the family for burial.

Superintendent of Police Collins Asea, North West Nile Region, urged residents to take early signs of domestic violence seriously.

“We urge community members to report signs of domestic violence early. Timely intervention can save lives. As we enter the festive period, leaders and residents must remain vigilant and work together to prevent such tragedies,” he said.

Authorities say the incident adds to a worrying rise in domestic violence cases in the region as the festive season approaches.
