Police Say 86 Arrests Made Over Panga Attacks in Kampala

Police have arrested 86 suspects and confirmed seven people injured in connection with the ongoing panga-wielding incidents that have rocked parts of Kampala Metropolitan Area.

According to the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire, the violent attacks have mainly been reported in Nsangi, Kyengera, and Mukono.

He noted that police operations in these areas are ongoing to restore calm and ensure public safety.

“We have arrested 86 suspects linked to these criminal activities. Our teams have intensified both foot and motorized patrols in affected areas,” Owoyesigyire said, adding that police are also working closely with community members to identify the remaining perpetrators.

He assured the public that security agencies are determined to bring the situation under control and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.

The panga-wielding incidents, often involving groups of young men attacking residents at night, have raised alarm in several Kampala suburbs.

Police have responded with joint security operations and increased visibility in hotspot areas to deter further attacks.
