Kira Police Division has carried out a major intelligence-led operation targeting crime hotspots in Mbalwa, Kakajjo, and Kireku, resulting in the arrest of 33 suspects and the recovery of narcotics.

Kira Police Division conducted a significant intelligence-led operation on the night of September 16, 2025, targeting areas including Mbalwa, Kakajjo, and Kireku.

The operation, which began at 9pm, aimed to curb rising criminality, focusing particularly on locations frequented by individuals suspected of involvement with opium.

A total of 33 suspects were arrested, with 13 apprehended in Mbalwa and 20 in Kakajjo (Koboko) zone and Kireku.

Those arrested have been charged with possession of narcotic substances. During the operation, exhibits of opium were recovered and formally documented.

Police teams had meticulously mapped out the targeted locations, and officers were briefed on professional conduct prior to the operation. Authorities confirmed that the operation successfully met its objectives, signaling a continuation of similar initiatives to combat crime in the division.

“This is part of our ongoing strategy of intelligence-led policing to address crime hotspots and ensure public safety,” said SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, on September 18, 2025.

The Uganda Police Force has emphasized that such operations are central to their approach in reducing criminal activities and drug-related offenses in urban areas.
