Police said it will continue to work closely with community stakeholders, local leaders, and child protection agencies to ensure the victim’s welfare and the expeditious prosecution of the perpetrator,

Police in Lira City have arrested a 22-year-old man for defiling a 5-year-old girl.

It is alleged that the suspect, a resident of Lira City East Division, lured the victim from home before dragging her into a nearby bush.

North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident saying preliminary findings indicate the suspect lured lured the victim using soda.

Okema said the suspect has since been arrested and is currently being detained at Lira City East Division Police Headquarters.

"The victim has been medically examined and is receiving emergency medical, and psychosocial support, while further inquiries are underway to strengthen the case file before submission to RCSA for perusal and legal guidance," says Okema.

"We strongly condemns this horrific act against a vulnerable child and reaffirm our commitment to pursuing justice without fear or favour."

Police said a charge of aggravated defilement has been preferred against the suspect.

"We urge parents, guardians, and the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or conduct involving minors. Let us all take collective responsibility in protecting our children from harm," he said.
