Thieves Break Into Arua Shop, Steal Over Shs34m, Phones
Police in Arua City are investigating a daring break-in at Saidia Family Enterprises, where thieves stole over Shs 34 million in group savings, merchandise, and mobile phones, exposing serious security gaps at the premises.

In the early hours of June 23, 2025, unknown criminals forced their way into Saidia Family Enterprises shop located in Euata Cell, Onzivu Ward, Ayivu East Division, Arua City.

The break-in was discovered around 7:20 AM by the shop director, Judith Azakozu, who alerted police shortly after.

The stolen cash, totaling over Shs 34 million, included group savings entrusted to Pizzharo Ogwal Lamechk, a banker and treasurer of Ecoma SACCO, during a SACCO meeting held at the shop the previous day.

Two mobile phones and other merchandise were also taken during the robbery.

Police arrived at the scene between 8:30 and 10:00 AM, accompanied by a canine unit.

However, investigators faced challenges due to contamination of the crime scene, complicating the search for clues.

Early inquiries suggest that the suspects gained entry by breaking the burglar-proof bars on a window. At the time, the shop lacked both a security guard and CCTV surveillance.

Superintendent of Police Collins Asea, West Nile Region Police spokesperson, emphasized that investigations are ongoing and urged the public to provide any information that could aid in identifying the culprits.

“We strongly advise business owners to install CCTV cameras and secure their premises with guards, especially when handling large sums of money overnight,” SP Asea said.

As the search for the suspects continues, police assured the community of their commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.
