For Umar Ssuna, a childhood fascination with cars has evolved into a thriving enterprise, but his journey began not in a boardroom, but in the back of his uncle's car.
Today, Ssuna is the driving force behind Alpha Motors Uganda, a leading dealership in Right Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles that has been serving a wide array of clients across the country since 2015.
Ssuna’s passion was ignited early, as he spent his youth shadowing his uncle through car yards, absorbing the subtleties of engines, the art of sales, and the importance of customer service.
By the age of 17, his hobby transformed into a clear ambition. "I watched my uncle talk about cars like they were his best friends," Ssuna recalled. "I knew I wanted to be like him."
His first major success came swiftly—selling five cars in a single week—an extraordinary feat for a newcomer. This milestone was a turning point, confirming that his path was not a fleeting pastime but a professional calling.
The journey was not without obstacles. A significant challenge was a lack of capital, which hindered his ability to expand. Undeterred, Ssuna built his business slowly, relying on strategic decisions and developing a reputation for trustworthiness with his clients. This approach allowed him to gradually expand his network and grow his business from the ground up, eventually leading to the founding of Alpha Motors Uganda.
Located at Mengo Bakuli in Kampala, Alpha Motors Uganda has since become a trusted name, specializing in vehicle procurement and customer service.
The company has provided vehicles to a diverse range of clients, including government agencies, NGOs, and private individuals.
Their business model is built on delivering trusted, affordable automotive solutions with a customer-first approach, offering discounted rates and favorable installment plans. The company's mission is captured in its theme: "Every Home Must Own a Car."
With a history spanning back to 2015, Alpha Motors Uganda has consistently provided quality vehicles to both high-end clients and medium-income earners. The company is deliberate in its mission to make car ownership manageable for people nationwide.
Today, Ssuna's hard work has earned him local business awards and recognition among the region's top car dealers. "Every car I sell is more than a deal," he said. "It's a dream delivered."
Ssuna’s story has become a powerful example for young Ugandans aspiring to build something from their passion.
