At least 10,400 residents in Kikuube District have so far benefited from the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM), with a total of Shs10 billion disbursed to support household income-generating activities.
The disbursement exercise is currently underway in the sub-counties of Kabwoya, Bugambe, Buhimba Town Council, Buhimba Sub-county, Kiziranfumbi and Kyangwali.
Kikuube has 29 parishes across the district where the initiative is being implemented, targeting organized groups at the grassroots level.
The Resident District Commissioner, Godwine Angalia, confirmed that since the inception of the programme in the district, Shs10 billion has been extended to more than 10,400 beneficiaries.
He said the programme is already registering tangible improvements in livelihoods, with many recipients investing in enterprises such as goat rearing, poultry farming, piggery and crop agriculture.
Angalia noted that several enterprise groups are performing well, with some beneficiaries already reporting significant returns from their investments.
He, however, warned against misuse of the funds, stressing that strict action would be taken against those who divert the money from its intended purpose.
He emphasized that PDM funds are revolving in nature and must be repaid to allow other beneficiaries to access support.
The Kikuube District Production Officer, Barnabus Ntume, said each parish under the programme receives Shs50 million, which is then distributed to beneficiaries operating within organized enterprise groups.
