The Buganda Kingdom has opened an agricultural input supermarket in Buweekula County as part of efforts to strengthen farming and improve productivity among rural households.
The facility, located in Kiseenene Village, Mumyuka Bagezza Sub-county in Mubende District, will provide farmers with access to quality seeds, fertilisers, farm equipment and other essential inputs for both crop and livestock production.
The supermarket was officially commissioned by the Second Deputy Katikkiro and Treasurer of Buganda, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, who urged farmers to take advantage of the initiative to modernize agriculture and increase output.
He emphasized that access to genuine farm inputs is critical to achieving better yields and improving household incomes.
The initiative has been supported by Stanbic Bank in partnership with CBS PEWOSA Nsindikanjake Mubende branch, reflecting collaboration between the Kingdom and financial institutions to strengthen agricultural value chains.
Buganda’s Minister of Agriculture, Hamis Kakomo, said the Kingdom has a long-term plan to establish similar agricultural input shops across all counties.
He noted that the strategy is intended to bring reliable farm supplies closer to farmers while protecting them from counterfeit or substandard agricultural products that often lead to losses.
Kakomo added that another county earmarked for a similar supermarket will soon be announced, as part of the Kingdom’s broader plan to boost agricultural productivity and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
The move aligns with ongoing efforts by the Buganda Kingdom to promote commercial agriculture as a driver of economic empowerment and rural development.
