Iganga Woman Member of Parliament Sauda Alibawo has conceded defeat in the recently concluded parliamentary elections, pledging to work alongside the winner, Mariam Seif.
Speaking to the media at her home in Bulubandi Village, Iganga Municipality, Alibawo emphasized that leadership is about serving the people.
“This is not a war but a matter of service to the people who have entrusted you with a five-year mandate,” she said.
Alibawo, who ran as an independent candidate after losing in the NRM primaries, was defeated by her long-time political rival, Mariam Seif of the NRM, who garnered 46,778 votes against Alibawo’s 27,665 votes.
She promised to collaborate with Seif to ensure that ongoing development programs initiated during her tenure are completed.
“As a leader, there are programs I had embarked on which should be completed so that people benefit,” Alibawo said.
She also congratulated President Yoweri Museveni on his victory in the recent parliamentary and presidential elections, noting that the results reflect locals’ continued confidence in the ruling NRM government.
Bruhan Muzaaya, Alibawo’s campaign manager, praised her concession as a display of mature politics, highlighting the importance of respecting voters’ decisions.
“Coming out to appreciate the votes cast in favor of another candidate is not an easy task,” he said.
