Security preparations for the 2026 general elections have intensified after a total of 3,984 Special Election Polling Constables successfully completed their training and were officially passed out across the Wamala Police Region.
The constables were trained at three designated centres within the region, each catering for recruits drawn from different districts.
According to the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, the pass-out exercise marks a significant step in strengthening election security and ensuring orderly polling processes.
During the ceremonies, District Police Commanders from the respective districts presided over the events and issued stern reminders on professionalism and discipline.
They emphasised that although the polling constables are not full-time police officers, they will be fully bound by the Uganda Police Force disciplinary code of conduct for the duration of their election-related duties.
“You are now part of the machinery that ensures democracy is protected. Discipline must guide you every step of the way as you execute election duties,” SSP Kigozi said.
Kigozi noted that disciplined and well-prepared personnel are critical to maintaining peace during the election season.
“This pass-out is an important milestone. These constables have been trained to support safe, transparent, and credible elections. Their conduct will directly reflect the professionalism of the Uganda Police Force,” he added.
Following the ceremonies, the constables were released to return to their respective homes and instructed to await further communication regarding deployment.
Police authorities are currently finalising logistical arrangements, including the provision of uniforms and other operational requirements, before the constables formally assume their duties.
Kigozi said the next phase will involve detailed briefings on polling station operations, electoral laws, and coordination with regular police officers.
