Masaka City Mayor Florence Namayanja, who is seeking re-election under the National Unity Platform (NUP), has criticised her rival Micheal Mulindwa Nakumusana for allegedly spreading claims that she sold city property.
Ms Namayanja made the remarks while canvassing for votes in Kitegeeza, Nyendo–Mukungwe Division, describing Mulindwa’s statements as “baseless and malicious allegations.”
“Nakumusana has gone too far with these lies,” Namayanja said. “It is astonishing how some people speak loudly about everything without even a shred of evidence. I challenge anyone—including Mulindwa—to point out a single piece of Masaka City property that I have sold.”
She insisted that throughout her tenure, she has never disposed of any city assets and called on her opponents to provide proof instead of tarnishing her reputation for political gain.
Mulindwa, the Nyendo–Mukungwe Division Mayor who is now seeking to dislodge Namayanja, has repeatedly accused the current city leadership of mismanaging and selling off properties.
“I will not sell off the city’s assets the way Mayor Namayanja has been doing,” Mulindwa said. “I intend to protect what is left and acquire even more property for the city.”
Masaka City continues to face land shortages, which have hindered major development projects. Even the construction of the new city headquarters has stalled due to the lack of suitable land.
