The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has gained a boost in Lyantonde District after Ms. Kyamatondo Fridah, an independent contender for Woman Member of Parliament, withdrew from the race in favour of the party’s flagbearer, Dr Doreen Birungi.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa confirmed the development in a statement, praising Ms. Fridah for what he described as a commitment to party cohesion.

“As we continue with our efforts to consolidate the NRM base, last evening I had an engagement with Ms. Kyamatondo Fridah… I’m happy she agreed to withdraw from the race and support NRM flagbearer Dr. Doreen Birungi,” he said.

Tayebwa further thanked her for prioritising party unity, saying, “Thank you for putting our party first Ms Fridah.”

The development strengthens the NRM’s position in Lyantonde and is expected to enhance Dr Birungi’s prospects in the race
