The Electoral Commission (EC) has formally summoned Kitagwenda County parliamentary aspirant and NRM flag bearer Robert Mugabe to respond to a petition challenging his nomination for the 2026 General Elections.
In a letter dated November 19, 2025, the Commission, through the Kitagwenda District Returning Officer, informed Mugabe that a formal complaint had been filed contesting his eligibility to run for Member of Parliament.
The petition was lodged by Mr. Monday Gad, represented by Mujurizi & Tumwesigye Advocates, seeking to nullify Mugabe’s nomination on unspecified grounds.
“Please find attached the above complaint made to the Commission to which a response is required of you,” wrote Richard Baabo Kamugisha, Acting secretary to the Electoral Commission.
He said both parties must appear before the Commission for a formal hearing.
“Please note that the said complaint will be heard by the Commission on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10:00 am, to which you are invited and, by copy of this correspondence, the petitioner — Mr Monday Gad — is hereby invited,” the letter stated.
The Nile Post has also reported that other contenders, including former MP Agaba Abbas Mugisha, Emmanuel Arinaitwe, Africano Arinaitwe, Mubarak Nsamba, and George William Spenser, were summoned earlier and are awaiting the EC’s final ruling tomorrow.
The Commission’s decision on Friday will determine whether Robert Mugabe remains on the ballot for Kitagwenda County as the contest for the 2026 elections intensifies.
