The Electoral Commission (EC) in Ntungamo has urged all parliamentary candidates to strictly adhere to campaign regulations as the district prepares to officially launch the 2026 election campaigns on Monday, November 10.
Officials say following the agreed programme is essential to maintain order, prevent clashes, and ensure peaceful conduct throughout the campaign period.
District Election Administrator Elizabeth Namirembe said all candidates must follow the campaign programme set during a recent harmonisation meeting.
“We have guidelines and they are expected to follow them. They must stick to the campaign program, avoid insightful language, operate within the time limits, and avoid violence,” Namirembe said.
Campaigns are scheduled daily from 7am to 6pm, running until January 13, 2026, ahead of polling on January 15.
The harmonisation meeting, attended by a selection of the 27 parliamentary candidates, established official routes, dates, and venues to prevent clashes and ensure security coordination.
Candidates were allowed to choose their preferred schedules. Namirembe noted that the exercise is crucial as campaign activities intensify in the coming weeks.
Returning Officer Latif Ngonzi emphasized that the Commission has completed its preparations and will now focus on monitoring candidates’ conduct in the field.
“The moment EC finishes harmonisation, what remains is for the candidates. They will be in the field, and as EC we shall be monitoring and supervising them,” he said, stressing that full adherence to the guidelines is expected.
Ntungamo District, which has 812 polling stations and 301,466 registered voters, is now set to witness candidates unveiling their manifestos as the official campaign period begins.
