Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi on Monday took his campaign to the Busoga sub-region, where his stop in Iganga town was marked by a tense confrontation with police.
Mafabi, who arrived in Iganga shortly after midday, found security personnel already deployed along his planned route.
Police officers, under the command of Iganga District Police Commander Eria Elupot, pressed him to divert through the CMS–Bulamagi route before continuing to Nabitende and other scheduled venues.
The FDC candidate and his team refused, insisting they would not abandon their original program. A heated exchange followed, creating visible tension before both sides reached a compromise.
Police eventually relented and allowed Mafabi to proceed along his chosen path.
His convoy’s entry into Iganga town drew jubilant crowds, with supporters lining the streets to cheer him on. The excitement brought traffic on the busy Iganga–Jinja highway to a standstill, briefly paralyzing transport along the stretch.
Earlier in the day, Mafabi had traversed several rural parts of Iganga district before addressing a major rally in the town center later in the evening.
In his message, Mafabi promised economic transformation, particularly tackling youth unemployment, and pledged to strengthen service delivery in education and healthcare.
“Ugandans deserve a people-centered government that works for ordinary citizens,” he told supporters, urging the Busoga community to rally behind FDC in the upcoming elections.
The Busoga sub-region is seen as a key battleground in the 2026 presidential race, with the ruling party and leading opposition candidates expected to step up their presence in the area in the coming weeks.
