Politicians Praise NBS TV at Launch of UG Votes 2026 Coverage

Politicians from across Uganda’s political spectrum have commended NBS Television for launching its UG Votes 2026 coverage, citing the broadcaster’s role in providing reliable election updates and promoting democratic engagement ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, NRM vice chairperson for Buganda and Chairperson of the National Consultative Forum, described NBS as “a key player in deepening democracy.”

He said, “When media opens up spaces like this, voters get to hear directly from all candidates. That strengthens our democracy.”

Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) President Jimmy Akena praised the station for making politics relatable.

“NBS balances serious national issues with a touch of humour, keeping audiences informed while engaged. That’s a rare skill,” he said.

Presidential aspirant Nancy Kalembe noted that NBS has provided candidates with a fair platform to present their visions.

“Their coverage speaks for itself, and Ugandans are now more informed as we head into 2026,” she said.

From the opposition, National Unity Platform (NUP) lawyer George Musisi emphasized that impartial media is critical to credible elections.

“The fairness of an election is not only about the ballot—it’s also about access to information. Media houses like NBS play a central role,” he said.

Democratic Party’s Kennedy Mutenyo added that credible media bridges the gap between politicians and citizens, while Nakawa West aspirant Anderson Burora described NBS as “a pillar in shaping Uganda’s democratic journey.”

With UG Votes 2026 now underway, leaders expressed optimism that fair and comprehensive media coverage could enhance transparency and citizen engagement in the 2026 polls.
