Pheona Wall elected new Uganda Law Society president

Lawyers under their umbrella body, the Uganda Law Society have elected Pheona Nabasa Gladys Wall as their new president.

Wall, who polled 441 votes beat off competition from four other lawyers including Bernard Oundo, 427, Nelson Walusimbi, 239, Rashid Ssemambo,212 and Anne Karungi 47 to become the 17th president of the lawyers’ society in Uganda.

For the position of vice president, Diana Angwech beat Bernard Mukasa to be elected.

Profile

Pheona Nabasa Gladys Wall holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Law from Makerere University, a Diploma in Legal Practice and an MBA in Management.

She is also a governance professional and a public relations practitioner with over 15 years’ experience and is currently serving as the Senior Manager Legal Services National Water and Sewerage Corporation, a position she has held since June 2014.

She has served on various boards including Water FC, Future Investments Group, East African Young Water Professionals, Uganda Law Society, Public Relations Association of Uganda, among others.

Pheona won the Hague Institute for Innovations in Law’s “2018 Talent to Watch” award and is a New Vision 40 under 40 finalist for 2018.

She is a member of various organisations like ICGU, FIDA-U, IBA, PRAU, ULS, and EALS but also has extensive experience in legal risk management, regulatory compliance, projects, infrastructure and construction law, board affairs and stakeholder relations management.

Wall is also a  resource in both private and public enterprises with thorough knowledge and hands-on experience in public relations, company secretarial practice, corporate governance, labour law, contract and commercial transactions.

The 40-year-old replaces Simon Peter Kinobe, whose two-year term ended.
