Covid-19: Shanghai restaurant closes business in Kampala after 30 years

As the Coronavirus continues to take toll on the economy, another business has wound up due to the effects of the pandemic.

In a statement to customers, Shanghai Restaurant, a popular eating spot especially for Chinese has announced that it will be closing business by the end of the year.

“We have provided high quality Chinese food for close to 30 years and been an enthusiastic part of the community but due to the harsh effects of Covid-19 pandemic on the business, the restaurant is closing down,” a statement by the popular restaurant said.

The restaurant however said their Muyenga branch will remain open for your reservations and orders for Chinese and continental cuisines.

“You can look out for Shanghai restaurant on the Jumia food platform and for your daily take away straight from our restaurant to you. The long Shanghai history and the good business relationship will always remain a sentimental value to the staff and management of Shangri-La hotel and Shanghai restaurant.”

The Coronavirus pandemic has had a big toll on the Ugandan economy with a number of businesses either winding up or resizing on the number of employees.

Last week, GEMS Cambridge International School, Kampala (CIK) announced it will close business in Uganda in December over the Coronavirus pandemic.
