All is set for today's Fish Festival in Jinja

All is set for Jinja Fish Festival which takes place today, December 1 at Forever Resort in Jinja.

The festival will not only offer a chance to the public to try out some delicious fish, they will also get to learn more about the resource.

The public will have an opportunity to explore the fish that comes from Lake Victoria including the popular Nile perch which currently is the fish fetching the highest foreign exchange towards Uganda’s economy.

The key Objectives of the festival are: to promote Knowledge exchange through networking among the different stakeholders within and outside the fisheries industry; to offer a platform where innovations and research findings can be shared; to offer a platform where sustainable Nile Perch fisheries management and its implementation can be explained and to offer families and youths that love fish a unique experience to celebrate the fisheries through music, dance and drama.

Key stakeholders in the sector are set to showcase the fishery technology, cage cultures, value addition and share a lot more information about the sector including but not limited to policy issues, export markets and potential opportunities for investment.

There will be lots of other activities happening parallel to each other including the sustainable fisheries awareness quiz competitions, sustainable fisheries awareness, music dance and drama and Art competitions.

There will also be lots of prizes to be won through various competitions.

Entrance will be Shs 5000 for adults, free for children and gates open at 09:00am.

The Festival has been organized by Perfect Events with funding support from the Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through GIZ – Responsible Fisheries Business Chain Project (RFBCP) together with Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization (LVFO), Directorate of Fisheries Resources (DiFR),Uganda Fish Processors and Exporters Association (UFPEA) and the Federation of Fisheries Organizations of Uganda (FFOU).

Other organisers are: Katosi Women Development Trust (KWDT), Makerere University Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Science, National Fisheries Resource Research Institute( NAFIRRI)-NARO, Association of Fisheries and Lake Users of Uganda (AFALU) and Uganda Fisheries and Fish Conservation Association (UFFCA).
