Zzana mobile money robbery suspects will not defend themselves before army court

The suspects in court

Another witness has pinned suspects in the recent spate of mobile money robberies before the General Court Martial at Makindye.

Four people including  Bob Anichan, a UPDF deserter formerly attached to Uganda Military Academy Kabamba, Dennis Mangusho , formerly attached to  the 63rd Battalion, Stanley Mulunda alias Jumba Frank a casual labourer from Masanafu and Issa Ntale alias Ganja , a boda boda rider are accused of masterminding the recent spate targeting mobile money  points where agents were killed and huge sums of money robbed by armed men.

On Monday, Robina Nalwoga, the wife to Issa Ntale pinned him on the murder of two mobile money agents at Zzana along Entebbe road before the General Court Martial in Makindye.

On the night of June 10, 2019 armed thugs travelling on motorcycles attacked a mobile money point at Kirimanyago village, in Zzana, Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso district before killing the occupants including Harriet Nalwadda, 33 and Maureen Nakabuubi.

Nalwoga told court that on the fateful day, his husband went to work as usual but returned at night with a bag containing money and hid it under the bed.

“He returned home with a black bag containing money but also had blood stains and hid it under our matrimonial bed,”Nalwoga told court on Monday.

She however said she never questioned him about the bag.

Arrest

Nalwoga said on the morning June 18, in a joint operation, the army and police raided their home and arrested everyone at home before recovering a motorcycle registration number UEW 025Z Bajaj Boxer make.

She said she was detained at Katwe Police station for a period of one week before she was released but when asked whether she was speaking the truth, she answered in the affirmative.

“I would not have come to testify because Ntale is the father of my child,” she noted.

Two other witnesses including Francis Kaber, the head of security at Airtel Uganda and  D/ASP Gloria Rukundo Gumisiriza, the head of the homicide desk at Katwe Police station also pinned the suspects on the murder.

Kabera told the army court that he got court orders to track down phone call data records for telephone number 0755218637 belonging to Issa Ntale.

He told court that he found Ntale had been in constant communication with someone in Zzana on the fateful day but was also in contact with another number registered under the name of Bintah Ssengooba.

The head of the homicide desk at Katwe Police Station said she went to secure the scene of the crime after the incident and recovered cartridges which were tested and later found to have been discharged by a gun found at one of the homes of the accused persons in Masanafu.

The army court chairman, Lt.Gen.Andrew Gutti adjourned the case to December 3, 2019 for further hearing.

The prosecution alleges that on June 10th while at Zana Cell in Makindye Ssabagabo Division, the accused persons robbed Harriet Nalwadda of shillings 6.8 million shillings before shooting her dead together with her colleague Moreen Nakabuubi.
