Bobi Wine attends successful MP Basaalirwa’s thanksgiving

The thanksgiving ceremony for the newly elected Bugiri

Municipality Member of Parliament Asuman Basaalirwa on Saturday afternoon went

on successfully at Hindocha Primary School grounds.

There were fears police would disrupt the function after

earlier asking Basaalirwa to hold it from an enclosed venue but he refused to

adhere to police orders.

There were also more fears due to presence of Kyadondo East

legislator cum singer Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine.

However, the function went on smoothly with the second Deputy

Prime Minister Kirunda Kivejinja as the chief guest.

There was a hero’s welcome for Bobi wine and his Mityana

Municipality legislator Francis Zaake from a swarm of supporters as they

entered Bugiri town.

The two legislators had previously helped canvass votes for

Asuman Basaalirwa in the elections that led him to power.

Speaking to journalists at the function, Bobi Wine said he

was happy that he at last had been allowed to be free in his country by being

allowed to move freely in Bugiri without police interruption.

“I am happy that today I have got the opportunity to enjoy

my freedom and this cannot be taken for granted,”Kyagulanyi said.

“Bugiri is like my home because I spent a lot of time during

the parliamentary campaigns for Basaalirwa who I take as my brother. It is a nice

feeling coming to celebrate together with the people of Bugiri.”

The singing legislator said he was happy to have had a chat

with the second deputy Prime Minister.

“I have been reading about him in books but it is good that

today I had a chat with him and learnt a thing or two from him.”

Speaking to the crowd that had gathered, Kyagulanyi castigated

police for always breaking the laws they are supposed to keep.

“Your job is to ensure security and order but not violating

them.”

Police has in the past either blocked or disrupted functions

and events attended by the Kyadondo East legislator but the Saturday

thanksgiving in Bugiri went on successfully despite police presence.

Speaking about police’s earlier orders to have the function

moved to a hotel, Basaalirwa told his voters that he could not move it because

there is no other place that could accommodate the big numbers.

“I asked them to name any hotel that could accommodate such

a big number of people but it is good we finally agreed on this venue,”Basaalirwa

said.

He told his voters that he met with police management and

agreed that the function should go on at Hindocha Pirmary School grounds.

The second deputy Prime Minister however cautioned youths to

always tread carefully to avoid falling victim to various problems.

“As an elder, I advise you to move with caution. The youths

like Bobi Wine and many others that side should tread carefully because God has

kept us alive so that we oversee you take over this country,”Kivejinja said.

“We are not bad people but we want to see you take over the

country and help it move forward well. If you fight a war to win my place, I can

decide to make it impossible for you because I can decide which person to take

over after me.”

The politicians and their supporters would later dance to

Bobi Wine’s songs.
