The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces - Air Force bid farewell to 16 retired senior officers in a ceremony held at the Air Force headquarters in Entebbe.

The event marked the culmination of their official retirement ceremony on April 22 at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters, Mbuya.

Lt Gen Charles Okidi, the commander of UPDF Air Force, said the occasion was filled with mixed emotions.

"It was a moment of reflection, gratitude, and a touch of sadness as we say goodbye to our retiring Air Force officers," he said.

Throughout their careers, these remarkable officers have exemplified the core values of the Air Force and excelled in all they did," added Lt Gen Okidi.

He further acknowledged the retirees' unwavering commitment, courage, and sacrifice, both in times of peace and conflict, navigating through complex situations with diligence.

Recognizing the invaluable support from their spouses, Lt Gen Okidi requested them to continue their unwavering support even in retirement.

Big Gen Christopher Kasaija, the Commander of the Entebbe Air Force Wing, congratulated the retired officers on their honorable retirement, noting that each retiring officer has a story to tell, positive or negative.

Representing the retired officers, Lt Col Don Nyuma expressed gratitude to the Commander Air Force and other mentors for their guidance throughout their service.

He also commended the UPDF-AF, describing it as one of the best on the continent.

The ceremony saw the attendance of Directors, senior and junior officers, as well as dignitaries like RDC Entebbe Mr Hakim Kirigwa, Chairperson LCIII Jane Scolastica Najjemba Baguma, LC1 Mr Fred Senyonjo, among others.
