Kyagulanyi: I'm ready to attend IPOD if Museveni gives Ugandans their rights

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has challenged President Yoweri Museveni to free opposition party leaders in order for the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) to bear fruits.

Kyagulanyi said that it was pointless for leaders of political parties like the Democratic Party, Uganda People’s Congress and Justice Forum to attend IPOD talks yet they cannot freely traverse the country to meet the people.

DP president Norbert Mao, UPC leader Jimmy Akena and JEEMA leader Asuman Basalirwa attended the IPOD talks in addition to Uganda’s President and National Resistance Movement Yoweri Museveni.

Kyagulanyi said that he is ready to attend the IPOD talks in 2019 if President Museveni grants all Ugandans their freedom of speech and movement.

The legislator accused government of trying to cripple him financially by banning him from holding music concerts. Kyagulanyi, who started out as a musician Bobi Wine, has been blocked several times this year from holding concerts in different parts of Uganda.

He said he would not be bowed by the government action because he had anticipated such draconian measures intended to silence him.

Kyagulanyi is the moving force behind the People Power Movement. He has explained People Power as a grouping of Ugandans interested in bringing about a peaceful, democratic Uganda accountable to the people.
