Contribute to the development of Uganda, Museveni urges Youth

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has made a wake up call to Ugandan youth to step up and contribute to the development of the country.

While addressing the National Youth Council meeting on Saturday afternoon at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) grounds,Lugogo, the president noted the youth should be at the steer wheel of the country's development and they need to participate in several economic activities such as commercial agriculture if they are to drive Uganda to development.

He also revealed the government's plan to procure maize processing machines and avail these to the main maize producing districts in the country before going ahead to urge the youth to form groups and start under taking different economic activities that could add value to locally made products in order to reduce imports.

"You are very lucky to be born in a very rich country. Your parents spend money to enrich others by importing these things. I want an action plan by the youth so that we stop this haemorrhage of spending US $ 7 Billion on imports every year. I want the youth to wake up so that we develop our country in order to come out of poverty and joblessness."

He also advised the youth to help out their parents to embrace commercial farming and abandon the common subsistence farming which has kept many in poverty.

On the issue of security, the president said that no one will disturb the country's peace and called out the youth to understand and follow the ideology of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as this is the only way the country can progress if they work together.
