The Patriotic League Uganda (PLU) leaders in Kabale Municipality have called on President Museveni to retire and allow the young generation to take over.

This was during birthday celebrations for President Museveni's son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, organised by the Kabale PLU leadership.

General Muhoozi, the chief of defence forces, turned 50 on Wednesday.

PLU was formed from MK Movement in February under the leadership of Gen Muhoozi, who has in the past freely expressed his ambition to succeed his father.

During the birthday celebrations in Kabale, Henry Turinawe Wantanga, PLU Kabale mobiliser, said it is high time Museveni retired from leadership.

He said the President need to hand over to someone who is a Pan-Africanist and for that, they had singled out Gen Muhoozi.

Asked what guarantees the PLU had that Muhoozi will be the next president, Watanga said time will come when the First Son will retire from army and qualify to be stand for presidency.

“We need to bring hope to the youth of Kigezi and people of Uganda Uganda at large, we need to bring a generational leader," Watanga argued.

"We need to know that time is shortening up for president Museveni to retire and we need transition of power, which is peaceful. H needs to hard over to someone who believes in Pan-Africanism and the is General MK.”

Paul Twinamatsiko, secretary general PLU Kabale, said they have a lot of hope in Gen Muhoozi becoming the next president since now he is the CDF.

“The current responsibility that now Gen Muhoozi holds, we are hopeful the we can as well become our next president," Twinamatsiko said.

The birthday bash was joined by other area leaders such as Central Division chairman Sam Arinatwe, who applauded the PLU members for the celebration guesture.
