Opposition is better off divided- Muntu

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president and founder of the New Formation Movement, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu has said that division in opposition is the best as it will drive long term stability through rebranding.

According to Muntu, breaking away from FDC to form the New Formation will cause stability within the arguably biggest opposition party.

“FDC being the largest opposition party if it remained as stable as it was, even if it becomes part of the broader formation bringing together all the opposition, that broad formation would be unstable. So its stability is going to depend on how stable the components are,” Muntu said.

“My understanding is; our separation with FDC can create stability,” he added.

Muntu’s statements come against the heels of opposition from different opposition parties towards his New Formation.

Aruu North County legislator Odonga Otto recently accused Muntu and his New Formation of secretly working to promote the interests of President Museveni. Otto reiterated that Mugisha Muntu is a mole planted by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman, Yoweri Museveni.

A section of members of the FDC in Western Uganda led by the chairperson Stanley Katembeya, openly trashed a list of people joining forces with Muntu’s New Formation.

According to Katembeya, New Formation is full of cowards picking people aimlessly to join them.

“That is why they have been picking people from even the road side to come and say they are from FDC.”

However, Muntu said he was not bothered by the statements of Katembeya and his ilk because New Formation does not coerce but accepts people to come and work with them at will.
