The Inspector General of Police Gen.Kale Kayihura has replaced Assistant Superintendent of Police Muhammad Kirumira as the District Police Commander for Buyende.

On Wednesday, Kirumira announced he had resigned as Buyende DPC  despite having pending charges in the police disciplinary court which he says are meant to witch hunt him by his superiors.

However, according to the police spokesperson Emilian Kayima, Kirumira has been replaced by Assistant Superintendent of Police Edgar Akankwasa.

“The IGP has duly appointed another to take over the position and this appointment takes immediate effect,”Kayima said.

Kirumira was last week charged with a number of offences including corruption, extortion and unnecessary exercise of authority dating back between 2013 and 2014 while still in Nansana and Old Kampala as OC station and Division Police Commander respectively.

The police officer however said the charges are aimed at tarnishing his name among the public by his superiors for speaking on individual officers whom he accuse of conniving with criminals to terrorise the city.

“I have resigned from the force to enable them fulfil their motives. As a senior officer who has laboured to wipe out crime without any special facilitation, I have realised that my image before the administration shall never change and given the fact that I am a young man, I have resigned,” the maverick police officer said on his social media pages.

The police mouthpiece however warned the public against being sympathetic to an officer who is not complying with the force’s code of conduct.

“This should inform and sound a warning to the rest of us in the force to maintain discipline and we must play by rules of engagement,”Kayima said.

On Wednesday, police described as gross indiscipline amounting to a scandalous conduct the act by Kirumira to run to the media o express his views.

Kirumira was on Thursday morning forcefully arrested by police Flying Squad that broke into his house in Bulenga, Wakiso district.

He is currently detained at the Railway detention facility in Nsambya as he awaits fresh charges over his conduct.
