Ruth Rujoki Mushabe has been declared the Woman Member of Parliament for Kiruhura District for 12th Parliament after securing an unopposed nomination.
The announcement comes at the close of a two-day nationwide nomination exercise, which also confirmed Speaker Anita Among and her deputy Thomas Tayebwa as Members of Parliament.
In a message to her constituents, Ms Rujoki expressed gratitude and called for collective action to drive development in Kiruhura District.
“To the people of Kiruhura District, your overwhelming support and trust have given me an unopposed nomination, a clear sign that Kiruhura stands united in vision, purpose and commitment to progress," she said.
"This is not just my victory, it is our collective triumph as a district determined to grow, prosper and protect the gains we have worked so hard to achieve."
Ms Rujoki further thanked fellow NRM leaders who chose party unity over independent contestation.
“Your discipline, maturity and dedication to the NRM cause have strengthened our unity and set an example of true patriotism," she said.
"Now is the time to turn unity into action. I call upon each of you to join hands with me in developing Kiruhura District, bringing our ideas and commitment together to create jobs, improve services, empower communities, uplift every household and implement the NRM Party Manifesto for sustainable growth and development,” she added.
The declaration of Ms Rujoki as unopposed Woman MP is in accordance with Section 31 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, which stipulates that if only one candidate is duly nominated for a constituency, the returning officer shall forthwith declare that person elected, effective from the polling day fixed under the Act.
The Act also requires that the returning officer notify the Electoral Commission, which will publish the candidate’s name in the Gazette.
Ms Rujoki called for continued support of NRM leadership of President Museveni and other NRM flagbearers.
