The late Mary Karooro Okurut, celebrated author, educator, and politician, will be accorded an official burial as the nation honors her decades of service and contributions to literature and public life.

President Museveni has granted Mary Karooro Okurut an official burial, recognizing her remarkable contributions to Uganda’s public service and cultural life.

Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda said the National Organizing Committee (NOC) will work closely with Okurut’s family to finalize the burial arrangements.

“The NOC will sit and discuss with the family on the final arrangements,” Babalanda stated, extending condolences to her family, relatives, in-laws, and the people of Bushenyi and Teso.

Okurut’s legacy spans politics, education, and literature. She excelled as a public servant, educator, and author, leaving an indelible mark on Uganda.

The government, Church of Uganda, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, and citizens across the country have paid tribute to her exceptional life.

As Uganda mourns this gifted and patriotic citizen, Okurut’s family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of condolences and support from Ugandans and the international community.

Her legacy, both in public service and literature, will continue to inspire future generations, ensuring her contributions to Uganda’s history are remembered for years to come.
