Bell ObaFest Draws Over 6,000, Fosters Responsible Drinking and Sustainability

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) showcased its dedication to responsible drinking and environmental sustainability at this year’s Bell ObaFest.

The three-day festival, which attracted over 6,000 attendees, highlighted UBL’s initiatives on moderation, zero tolerance for drunk driving, and eco-friendly waste management practices.

Throughout the festival, UBL, in partnership with Asante Waste Management, managed waste responsibly, collecting over 2 tonnes of materials.

Approximately 56% of this waste was recycled, while the remaining 44% was repurposed for animal feed, aligning with the festival's commitment to 100% environmental sustainability.

To promote responsible drinking, UBL engaged attendees through trivia sessions and questionnaires, delivering important messages on moderation and safety.

The initiative also provided over 2,400 bottles of free Rwenzori Water, made available through a partnership with Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda, and hydration stations at all beer points to encourage safe consumption.

UBL’s Corporate Relations Manager for Positive Drinking, Brenda Kobutungi, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating enjoyable, safe experiences.

"While people enjoy our wide variety of drink options, we strive to ensure they do so responsibly. For every 2-3 beers, our teams encouraged hydration, and our Safe Boda partnership discouraged drunk driving," Kobutungi noted.

Bell Lager Brand Manager, Lilian Kansiime, praised the festival’s blend of fun and education, revealing that over 3,000 people participated in the "Wrong Side of the Road" campaign against drink driving.

"This year’s Bell ObaFest was a perfect blend of entertainment and education. We’re proud to have brought people together for a great time while reinforcing the importance of safety and moderation," Kansiime said.

In addition to entertainment, the festival featured various games such as basketball, darts, football, board games, and karaoke.

Winners received prizes, including vacuum cups, water bottles, umbrellas, and shirts, further enhancing the event's responsible drinking message.

A survey, completed by over 3,000 participants, allowed festival-goers to consider the consequences of impaired driving, reinforcing the event’s focus on safety.

UBL’s Bell ObaFest underscored the company’s commitment to fostering a culture of responsible drinking and environmental consciousness at large public events.
