MP Charles Tebandeke

The Member of Parliament for Bbaale County, Charles Tebandeke, is concerned with the increasing land evictions in his constituency.

The MP says there are over 30 villages that are living under fear of being evicted by unknown tycoons.

The villages living under fear according to the MP are Kyamugongo, Kitwe, Kyamujumbi, Kanywero, Kyebuye, and Balisanga.

Residents in Songwe, Namatogonya, Bukelele, Nakyesa 1, 2, 3 and 4, Namizo Nkabala, and Kyetume are also living in fear.

While those in Lugasa, Kirimampokya, Rwabwoko, Kitibwa, and Nsavu are just as bad.

"The challenges is with the absentee landlords and lack of implementation of the law accompanied by corruptions," Tebandeke said.

With the absentee landlords, land is in place for quite long, the land owner with title is not known and not seen and resident have occupied that land for years and we are now seeing administrators coming in to evict the people.

Almost 40 percent of the population in Bbaale are under threat of being evicted.

"I have written to the RDC to urgently intervene and cause a meeting to have the matter solved because its under Presidential directive that he should chair the security committee and they have powers to handle land matters," Tebandeke said.

"I'm preparing a motion before Parliament to argue government to examine all the public land given under lease and revise the objective of issuance of leases on such land to ascertain their validity."
