The minister of state for Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi has said that the ministry registered "incredible" progress in the financial year 2018/ 2019.
Kiwanda, while addressing journalists, said Uganda’s foreign exchange has gone from $1.5 billion in 2017/2018 to $1.6 billion in 2018/2019.
He said the ministry has been in position to create over 6,000 jobs.
“Our sector review is basically to see how we performed and how we are likely to perform next year but of course it is more of checking ourselves... so we have checked ourselves where we performed well," he said.
He noted that the challenges faced by the sector include branding of the country that is highly tarnished by false information.
“We have some incidents like riots especially at the beginning of the year but good enough we were able to clear our image,"he said.
He appealed to the public to always behave well and portray a good image of the country.
He urged the public to always protect the integrity of the country by only sharing true information about the county.
He said in 2021, the sector will put more focus on promoting marketing strategies and infrastructure that can allow easy movement of all tourists.
"We have segmented our marketing in four ways: local, tourism that is (Tulambule), East Africa, Africa and Uganda," he said.
