A new gym, sauna, and wellness facility launched at White Horse Inn in Kabale is expected to strengthen the region’s hospitality sector while promoting healthier lifestyles and wellness tourism among travellers and local residents.

As wellness increasingly becomes a key consideration for travellers, hotels are expanding beyond accommodation and dining to invest in fitness, relaxation, and mental wellbeing facilities.

This week, Crown Beverages Limited chairman Dr. Amos Nzeyi launched a new gym and sauna facility at White Horse Inn aimed at enhancing guest wellbeing and improving hospitality standards in Kabale.

The development comes amid growing demand from travellers seeking to maintain healthy routines while away from home, including access to fitness spaces, saunas, swimming pools, and relaxation facilities.

Industry players say post-pandemic travel trends have pushed health and mental wellbeing to the center of tourism and hospitality experiences, with hotels increasingly using wellness amenities to attract both business and leisure travellers.

Kabale Municipality resident Joab Tumwebarize welcomed the new facility, noting that sedentary lifestyles and reduced physical activity are contributing to rising non-communicable diseases.

He said the gym, sauna, and swimming pool would provide residents with more opportunities to stay active and adopt healthier routines.

“Having these facilities locally means people don’t have to travel far to exercise and take care of their health,” Tumwebarize said.

Representing Dr. Nzeyi, David Kalema said the investment was intended to create a space where both guests and community members could focus on physical and mental wellness.

“This investment is about creating a space where guests and the community can focus on both physical and mental health,” Kalema said.

Kabale Resident District Commissioner Maj. Godfrey Katamba commended the investment, saying it would strengthen tourism and contribute to economic growth in line with Uganda’s development agenda.

“The hospitality sector has a role to play in public health and tourism. This facility supports both,” Katamba said.

He added that such investments help position Kabale as a more competitive tourism destination while also supporting stress reduction and healthier living within the community.
