Plascon Continues Sponsorship as Masaza Cup 2026 Season Kicks Off

Kansai Plascon Uganda has said it will continue its sponsorship of grassroots football development and community engagement as a co-sponsor of the 2026 Masaza Cup, extending a partnership that began in 2023.

The Masaza Cup, now in its 22nd edition, remains one of Uganda’s leading grassroots football competitions, bringing together 18 counties of the Buganda Kingdom in a tournament that promotes talent development, unity, discipline and cultural identity.

The 2026 season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with defending champions Buweekula facing Kyaddondo at NTC Mubende Stadium in Buweekula. The opening match is expected to set the tone for a season of intense competition across the Kingdom.

Plascon-sponsored Buddu FC will begin its campaign on Sunday, June 21, 2026, against Buluuli at Kitovu Sports Arena.

Speaking at the tournament launch, Plascon Head of Marketing, Daniel Kayongo, said the company’s continued involvement reflects its interest in supporting grassroots sport and youth development through football.

He noted that the Masaza Cup has grown into a key platform for young players to showcase their talent while strengthening community engagement across Buganda.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, said the tournament continues to play an important role in uniting communities and developing football talent across the Kingdom.

He added that several players who have featured in the competition have progressed to professional football and the national team.

Mayiga also highlighted the tournament’s wider social impact, including youth engagement, income generation within the sports ecosystem, and awareness campaigns on issues such as HIV/AIDS.

Over the years, the Masaza Cup has evolved into a major cultural and sporting event in Buganda, providing a platform for talent identification while strengthening community identity and participation.

Plascon’s involvement in the tournament aligns with its broader community engagement activities under its “Twaake” platform, which promotes unity and shared identity through sport and culture.

The 2026 edition is expected to attract wide participation from fans across the 18 counties as teams compete for regional pride and the championship title.
