NBS Sport is calling the nation to gather at the State of Ugandan Sport National Symposium, taking place on June 17th and 18th, 2025, at Next Media Park. Under the bold theme “Bridging the Gap,” the symposium seeks to spark long-overdue conversations about the future of sport in Uganda—beyond the tweets, beyond the complaints—and into real, face-to-face dialogue with real solutions.
Speaking about this is Andrew Kabuura, Head of Sport at Next Media and a trusted name in Ugandan sports journalism for over 15 years. Kabuura passionately believes it’s time to reimagine how Uganda approaches sport—not just as games played, but as an ecosystem, a career, and an economic driver.
“Sport is a billion-dollar industry. Why wouldn’t you, as a sports person, want a share of that?” Kabuura challenges.
From football and rugby to athletics, basketball, and more, the two-day event will host all stakeholders including athletes, coaches, parents, fans, corporate sponsors, policymakers, and governing bodies, under one roof to tackle the systemic issues limiting Ugandan sports from reaching its full potential.
NBS Sport’s message is clear: Ugandan sport has achieved remarkable milestones despite chaos and scarcity. From hosting the Africa Rugby Cup to co-hosting the 2027 AFCON, Uganda is increasingly taking center stage on the continent. But now, he argues, we must professionalize, prioritize, and protect the future of our sports industry. “The sports career is short — about a decade unless you’re Cristiano Ronaldo,” he adds. “We need to make that decade count.”
