Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba has pledged to push for the upgrade of Ruhija Health Centre III to Health Centre IV within his current term of office, saying the move will improve access to health services for residents.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of LC3 Chairperson Beda Turyananuka and his councilors at Ruhija Sub County headquarters, Kasyaba said the district has already constructed a maternity ward at the facility as part of ongoing health infrastructure improvements.
“Upgrading Ruhija Health Centre III to HCIV will reduce health service and transport costs for residents who currently travel to Rubanda,” Kasyaba said.
On infrastructure development, Kasyaba said the district had successfully pushed for the removal of a roadblock that had been mounted on Bugarama Road by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
He further noted that construction works on the Kiyebe–Mataka–Nyakaranga Road will be undertaken within the current financial year, and appealed for the rehabilitation of the Nkukuru–Kyizenga Road to improve connectivity in the area.
The LC5 Chairperson also urged residents to actively participate in government poverty alleviation programmes, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and other empowerment initiatives, saying they are key to improving household incomes.
He encouraged communities to use such programmes responsibly to support sustainable development and reduce poverty levels in the district.
