After a decade as mayor, Mulyanyama sets his sights on Parliament, joining a competitive race within the National Unity Platform.

 

Makindye Division Mayor Ali Mulyanyama has announced his bid for the Makindye West parliamentary seat, ending a ten-year tenure in local government.

He formally declared his intention on June 10, 2025, by picking up expression of interest forms from the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kamwokya.

“I have served Makindye for now ten years and believe I can move to Parliament,” Mulyanyama said, expressing confidence in his track record and familiarity with the constituency.

“I am the best they can have for Makindye West. I am well-versed with Makindye more than any other people,” he added, voicing optimism that the party's election management committee would favour his candidacy over others.

Mulyanyama joins a growing list of NUP members eyeing the Makindye West seat, which is currently held by Allan Ssewanyana.

The incumbent MP has also declared his intention to seek re-election.
