Parliament has repossessed seven official vehicles previously attached to former Speaker Anita Among as security agencies continue investigations into alleged corruption, illicit wealth accumulation and money laundering.
According to parliamentary reporter Moses Namayo, the vehicles were returned to Parliament on Thursday afternoon and are currently parked at the second ground floor parking area at Parliament.
The repossessed fleet includes one Mercedes-Benz, one Toyota Land Cruiser V8 and five Toyota Land Cruiser V6 vehicles that had been attached to Among during her tenure as Speaker of the 11th Parliament after assuming office in 2022.
The vehicles, driven by Parliament-assigned drivers, reportedly arrived at around 2pm.
The development comes amid an intensified anti-corruption crackdown under the operation dubbed “Operation Maliza Ufasadi,” announced by Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Muhoozi recently warned of a major crackdown targeting corrupt government officials and individuals suspected of accumulating illicit wealth.
The latest repossession follows a series of security operations targeting Among’s properties in recent days.
Last week, security operatives reportedly raided Among’s residence and allegedly recovered unspecified sums of money as part of ongoing investigations.
Earlier this week, security teams also confiscated two Toyota Land Cruisers bearing registration numbers UA 630B and UBH 138W, alongside a Rolls-Royce and a Range Rover reportedly towed from Kigo.
Among had initially expressed interest in contesting for Speaker of the 12th Parliament but later withdrew from the race through a social media statement, citing party harmony within the ruling National Resistance Movement, where she serves as a member of the Central Executive Committee.
The developments come at a time of heightened political activity ahead of the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament.
