Leaders in Mbarara district have blamed the continued stalling of projects in the district on the bureaucracies at the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority. (PPDA).

The leaders said the rigid systems had kept them lagging behind and this often translated into wastage of public funds which they seek to protect.

The complaints were aired during a procurement baraza organised by the PPDA to forge a way ahead and address the challenges faced in the course of procurement in the various parts of the country.

Stakeholders in procurement want PPDA to streamline its nature of work and ensure that it does not affect the operations of entities and eventually fail or delay them.

The chairman LCV Mbarara district captain John Baptist Bamuturaki said PPDA depends on whistle blowers who eventually cause reviews which in the long run have led to wastage of public funds that the PPDA seeks to protect.

The stakeholders also expressed concern that the procurement team at the national level seemed to undermine the work of the regional offices.

Mbarara is the seventh district to hold a procurement baraza.

These barazas, the PPDA hopes, will help stake holders and leaders address the various challenges.
