EC concludes demarcation of electoral areas, set to unveil a number of polling stations

The Electoral Commission has concluded the process of reorganising the polling stations across the country and are in the process of compiling the data.

While addressing the media in Kampala, the chairperson of the commission, Simon Byabakama, emphasised the need to use the local council leadership in the verification of the national voters' register.

"We have concluded the exercise of demarcation of electoral areas and the organisation of polling stations. We are shifting through the mountain of data from all areas of the country,"he said.

He noted that the commission shall be coming with final position and inform the people of Uganda what the exercise produced and the number of polling stations in the country.

"Remember in the road map, we projected the number of polling stations was about 35,000. It might be slightly more or slightly less so we shall come up with the final figure after we have analysed all the data from the villages,"he said.

He said the that people with disabilities have to be identified from the grassroots level.

"You cannot identify a disabled person from the national voters' register because when they are being registered, they do not indicate that this is a person with a disability,"he said.

He noted the commission deemed it appropriate to identify person with disability at the village level so that register is constituted right from the grassroots in a credible manner.
