Think tank wants to equip MPs with debating skills

Uganda Dialogue Arena, a think tank, wants the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to allow them time and give them an opportunity to equip them with debating skills.

Fredrick Musiimenta, the founder of the think tank said MPs have faced criticism over their poor debating skills.

He said the continued criticism of the MPs demeans the county as a whole.

Fredrick Musiimenta the founder Uganda dialogue arena said if given the opportunity, the training package will focus on public speaking given that a number of MPs shy away from the public until election time when it is inevitable.

But while there is worry over the quality of debate, some legislators  said they were concerned about the growing number of legislators which hinders the quality of debate.

The woman MP Mbarara district Rosette Kajungu Mutambi said if the number of legislators is slashed or the creation of new districts curbed, the quality of debate will be appreciated since there will be ample time to debate.

She is however quick to dismiss that the quality of debate is lacking.
