UPC mourns former party vice president, Joseph Bossa

The Uganda People’s Congress party president Jimmy Akena, has praised the party’s former vice president, Joseph Bossa for his contribution and tremendous work in pushing ahead the party’s agenda.

He described the late as a man who was dedicated to serving UPC with all his heart and acknowledged his service as a party leader.

Joseph Bossa succumbed to illness on Monday this week, in The Hague, Netherlands where he was undergoing treatment.

After Olara Otunnu stepped down as party president in 2016, Akena and Bossa were involved in an ugly battle to lead the party.

Akena prevailed but Bossa and other officials took the matters to court where they still await adjudication.

His death is likely to change the complexion of the court battle.

While addressing the media at the party headquarters in Kampala, Akena expressed his grief and sorrow for the untimely death of Bossa.

“It is sad and disheartening to know that Joseph Bossa was in The Hague Netherlands with his wife undergoing treatment. Unfortunately we have received the demise of our comrade Joseph Bossa,” he said.

He noted that UPC is ready to spearhead the burial programme of the deceased if the family involves the party as an institution.

“We as a party, we follow the lead of Justice [Solome] Bossa and family for burial programme. Bossa was subsequently elevated to the position of the vice president of the party and in this position that he served until the end of his term. We as UPC acknowledge and honour him for the service he rendered to the party in these capacities,” he said.

Akena also called upon more work to improve insecurity and unemployment issues in the run up to independence day next week.

He said it is important to reflect both on where the country came from and where it is heading as a nation.

He noted UPC will continue to endeavour to see a future where farmers in all parts of Uganda can exploit comparative advantages.

“Uganda will be celebrating its 57th year as an independent country. At such a milestone, it is important to reflect both on where we are coming from and where we are going to as a nation," he said.
