UPC president Jimmy Akena said the proposal undermines the constitution of political parties and urged Mr Lumu to focus on critical national issues rather than on the administration of Parliament.

According to Fred Ebil, UPC Secretary General, "The date is identified, gazetted and announced on which the soft-spoken but hardened heart Uganda Peoples Congress President Jimmy Akena will be nominated for 2026 presidential race."

The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) is another party that needs a makeover. Dogged by internal conflicts and a perception of being out of touch with the grassroots, the UPC needs to revamp its image and appeal to a broader audience.
