According to the executive director of Uganda Wildlife Educations Centre (UWEC) James Musinguzi, the current statistics indicate that over 1,000 people in Uganda die of snake bites every year.
Musingunzi also revealed that this new national education conservation strategy programme is going to be rolled out to the grassroots to create awareness about snakebites
Dr. Alfred Mubangizi, the Program manager Tropical Disease said most locals prefer traditional healers to health professionals on grounds that they think health workers don’t have anti-venom.
Mubangizi said that the policy framework is before parliament and when passed it will make it easy for one to access the anti venom in hospitals.
