Manafwa district leaders want RDC, police chief sacked

Manafwa district council has made a resolution recommending immediate transfer of the three district security heads including the RDC, DPC, and DISO, on grounds of incompetence and high handedness.

The decision follows a recent incident where police allegedly raided four villages and tortured people, in search of a murder suspect who had reportedly escaped from the district police station.

The motion seeking to transfer the 3 officials was top on the agenda of council as councillors sat to pass the district budget for financial year 2019/2020.

The speaker Harriet Nandutu informed the House that she had received reports from the community concerning the havoc caused by police during an operation to re-arrest a murder suspect who had escaped from their custody.

The speaker further noted that security had overstepped their mandate.

This was followed by more claims against the from councillors.

The officers were not available to defend themselves.

However, in an earlier interview with The Nile Post, the DPC Denis Kamugisha dismissed the allegations saying that wanaichi injured themselves in the process of running away from his men as they pursued the suspect.
