Muslims asked to watch out for the moon in the evening of  Saturday

MUHAMAD MATOVU

As the entire Muslim Community prepare  to welcome Ramadhan, the Director of Sharia, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Kakungulu on Friday called upon Muslims across the country to look out for the moon during the evening of Saturday 4th May 2019.

If the moon is sighted on Saturday evening, it means fasting shall start on Sunday, May 5.

“Failure to sight the moon on Saturday May 4th, that  means fasting the Holy Month of Ramadhan will automatically commence on Monday 6th May 2019” Kakungulu said.

He said whoever sights the moon or is in possession of reliable information should pass it over to UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala on the following telephone numbers;

• Director of Sharia – 0772/702-525171

• Public Relations Officer (Haji Nsereko Mutumba) – 0772409504

• Registrar of Sharia (Shk. Twaib Ali Mpanso) – 0782306313/0702491162

He urged Muslims to welcome the holy month of Ramadhan with happiness and wished them a fruitful month of Ramadhan.

“Let’s get ready to welcome the Holy month, lets be happy as we welcome this month of Ramadhan ” he said

He further urged Muslims across the country to fast the holy month of Ramadhan in accordance to Islamic teachings.
