The Ministry of Internal Affairs has raised also a red flag over scam websites duping would be visitors to Uganda with many handed fake visas and charged exorbitantly.
According to Mercelino Bwesigye, the Acting Director Citizenship and Immigration Control, the websites are said to be charging almost triple the actual fee.
Visitors are charged even on visas that meant to be free like for those with Diplomatic Visas with a multiple Visa costing more 200 USD Bwesigye complained
The immigration legal team is contemplating using existing laws to penalise the culprits.
In the meantime this is seen as a solution but can only apply for people within our jurisdiction where the laws if the land apply.
Jacob Siminyu the Immigration Communication officer added that the only official Visa site remains www.visas.immigration.go.ug
