Subjects of the Kabaka from Kyaddondo County have held a commemorative fire camp at the county headquarters in Kasangati as part of activities marking the 33rd coronation anniversary of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
The event was presided over by the Buganda Minister for Community Development, Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, who was received by Kyaddondo County Chief Hajji Ahmed Matovu Magandazi, Deputy County Chief Ronald Mpagi, Buganda Lukiiko representative Jane Francis Lukwago, county leaders and sub-county chiefs.
The fire camp attracted a large gathering of Kabaka’s subjects, including local leaders, students and community members who participated in educational sessions delivered by various facilitators, including Ssali Damascus, Christine Nabukenya and Dr Frank Ndugga.
The presentations focused on preserving Buganda’s cultural heritage and promoting public health awareness, including prevention of diseases linked to poor hygiene such as Ebola.
Speaking at the event, Kyaddondo County Chief Hajji Ahmed Matovu Magandazi appreciated schools that allowed learners to take part in the programme and commended youth leaders and volunteers for their contribution towards its success.
“I thank the schools that supported this initiative by sending students to participate. I also commend the county youth chairperson, Muddu Thomas, and all volunteers at different levels whose dedication ensured the programme was successfully organised,” Magandazi said.
Minister Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko praised the organisation of the event, saying it had strengthened the importance of the traditional coronation fire camps within Buganda.
“This programme has strengthened the importance of the coronation camp within Buganda. I encourage all the Kabaka’s subjects to actively participate in the Kingdom’s upcoming programmes, especially the 33rd Coronation Anniversary celebrations taking place next week,” Kikomeko said.
The commemorative gathering brought together Buganda subjects, local leaders, schools and volunteers as preparations continue for the Kingdom’s annual coronation celebrations.
The main coronation fire camp for Buganda was held at the Kyaddondo County headquarters in Kasangati, while similar camps were organised across all sub-counties of the Kingdom under the theme:
“Let Us Remain Steadfast in Preserving Our Cultural Heritage.”
